Greenville County: A Leader in State Parks — Caesars Head
At the top of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, little parcels make a big difference — what happens uphill shapes everything below.'
One Small Purchase; One BIG Gain: Caesars Head State Park is surrounded by private homes, so opportunities to add land are rare. That’s why the 26-acre “Caesars Headwaters” project matters: springs and seeps on the property along Highway 276 form the Middle Saluda River, feeding the cascades of neighboring Jones Gap State Park. Funding to Naturaland Trust helped secure two parcels (21 + 5 acres) to protect important headwaters and simplify long-term management for the Park.
Why it matters: Headwaters protection keeps streams cold, clean, and flowing, benefiting wildlife and everyone downstream. On the escarpment, even small additions deliver outsized ecological impact.
Take a minute: Share this with someone who loves the Caesars Head overlook — and ask them to picture the water’s journey.
