Greenville County: A Leader in State Parks — Jones Gap

Jones Gap isn’t just beautiful — it’s one of the most biologically diverse places in the Upstate, with access limited by just 32 parking spots.

One Project, Many Gains:  In our very first grant cycle (Nov. 2021), the Greenville County Historic & Natural Resources Trust partnered with Naturaland Trust to add the 171-acre “River Falls” tract — growing Jones Gap by ~4% and opening the door to future trail and access improvements. River Falls Road remains one of South Carolina’s most scenic drives, following the Middle Saluda into the park — one of only two ways in (the other is Gap Creek Road).

Why it matters: More protected land = healthier habitat, safer waters, and a better visitor experience. Future trails and a potential new parking area would relieve pressure at the gate while protecting the very resources people come to see.

Take a minute: Love Jones Gap? Share this note with a friend who hikes — and remind them to plan ahead.
