Breathe Easier—Clean Air Starts Here
You Don't Have to Fly to the Arctic for Cleaner Air
Some of the cleanest air on Earth is found atop Greenland's ice sheet. But you don't have to travel thousands of miles to breathe healthier air.
Our Prisma Health colleague Dr. Nat Mann recently shared a dispatch from 10,500 feet above Greenland. His message wasn't about adventure — it was about appreciation. Here in the Upstate, we're surrounded by forests, farms, and expansive parks that help produce the clean air many people travel to find.
The Air You Breathe Matters
Most of us spend nearly 90% of our time indoors or in vehicles, where pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and other airborne chemicals build up. According to Dr. Mann, simply stepping outside into clean, open air can reduce your exposure to many of these pollutants by up to 10 times.
Open Space Is Nature's Air Filter
Forests, farms, and protected watersheds quietly remove pollution, cool our communities, and give us healthier places to live, work, and play. As Greenville County grows, these natural air filters are disappearing.
Protecting Land Protects People
The Greenville County Historic & Natural Resources Trust has helped protect 3,000 acres of forests, farms, and watershed lands. Every local dollar invested has leveraged more than $5 from state, federal, and private partners — multiplying the impact while safeguarding the clean air we all share.
Did You Know? One of the best things you can do for your lungs doesn't come from a pharmacy. It comes from protecting the open spaces that keep Greenville's air clean.
