Protecting a Natural Treasure in Northern Greenville County

In November 2021, the Greenville County Historic & Natural Resources Trust approved its first round of conservation projects — including a $150,000 investment to protect a property valued at nearly $1 million near the outfall of Greenville Water's North Saluda Reservoir.

Brought to the Trust by our conservation partner Naturaland Trust, this property is slated to become the centerpiece of a future South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) Heritage Trust Preserve.

While Wildlife Management Areas managed by DNR primarily emphasize hunting and fishing, Heritage Trust Preserves focus on safeguarding rare natural and cultural resources — though some compatible recreational uses, such as hunting, may be allowed.

Learn more about this special place from Naturaland Trust’s Mac Stone as he shares what makes this landscape worth protecting and the partners who made it possible.
